The story behind Mingos
Mingos is not a typo. It is simply what flamingos are called in our house, and has been for long enough that correcting it would feel rude.
The song grew out of a stack of her own words , Mingos, Losbers, Codlesters, Me Chon Chee , the sort of mispronunciations that vanish quietly somewhere around age five. Writing them into a song felt like a beautiful way to remember the.
She picked the character, the colour, the mood and most of the vocabulary. We shaped it into a song together, and she made the final call on which take actually sounded like Mingos.
Meet Mingos the flamingo
A very pink, very loved flamingo toy bought after a family holiday to Spain. Mingo's started out as a pool inflatable that unfortunately did not fit on the plane, so when we got home the smaller and cuddlier version was purchased.
